Search seems limited. For example I attempted to search rice cooker and the search came up empty. Then I attempted to search “rice” and indeed some rice companies and other food companies came up but so did furniture companies and party linens.

Good point. 
Our search is basically a keyword text search over multiple fields in listings. If the user searches for two keywords (rice cooker) only items that contain both will be found (the search uses AND instead of OR). And if there is no mention of Rice Cooker anywhere in our data (which is the case), the search will come up empty. Not much we can do, this is not fuzzy logic or AI like Google.
The second issue is that when searching for just 'Rice' there will be a lot of irrelevant results as they contain the word 'Price'. We could do something about that (searching for whole words only) but this would also mean that searching for 'cooker' would not match any items that mention 'Ricecooker'. Ar any combined keyword.
